The post-project uncoordinated charging behavior is specified by uploading custom charging profile data or selecting one of the sets of reference profiles. The charging profile consists of average hourly charging rates per electric vehicle in kW and is scaled by the number of participating electric vehicles before being added to the pre-project load profile. Since charging behavior is different on weekdays and weekends, charging profiles have two typical hourly charging series: weekday and weekend.
The profiles shown in the figure below come from the Alternative Fuels Data Center Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Toolbox. This toolbox allows users to estimate charging behavior at different types of chargers (home, work, fast chargers) while toggling inputs such as city, number of EV vehicles, and average miles traveled per vehicle.
To generate the profiles shown below and included in the GridPIQ tool, this toolbox was run for four different cities, using the set of parameters the tool assigned for each of those cities. The results of the toolbox calculation include weekend and weekday profiles split up by charger type. All charger types were summed to include only one weekend and one weekday profile per city. The toolbox data was also resampled from 15 minute to hourly by selecting the peak charging power for each hour. Data was also updated to include charging power per vehicle.
